Friends of Boy Scout Troop 10
In celebration of the 100-year anniversary of Dunedin’s Boy Scout Troop 10, the Friends of Boy Scout Troop 10 organization was formed in January of 2018 with the purpose of raising funds for the 100 Year Anniversary and for future generations of Scouts. It is a listed charitable organization with a 501(c)3 designation.
Mission Statement
The Friends of Boy Scout Troop 10 organization was formed to help Troop 10 with financial support for camping, equipment and facilities related to the Troop’s scouting experience, in honor of its 100 years of service to the community.
Troop 10 History
Dunedin Troop 10 started in 1917, but WWI interrupted the leadership. In 1921 it was reorganized as Troop 1, a number shared by St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Dunedin Boy Scout troops. Later, the council assigned each troop a different number. Dunedin was given Troop 10.
On April 20, 1927, the land on which the scout hut is located was deeded in trust to three trustees: A.J. Grant, Ralph Dickinson, and T.H. Skinner. The Scout Hut was built soon after. The troop's first sponsor was the Woman’s Club of Dunedin and over the years the sponsor changed several times. First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin has been the continuous sponsor since 1939.
The Scout Hut is the heart of Boy Scout Troop 10. The building has been updated periodically over the years with the most recent project taking place in 2018 by the current leaders.
Troop 10 will be celebrating 100 years in 2021 with an exhibit of scout history and the opening of a time capsule during a centennial celebration on February 5 and 7.
